Liat Ayalon, Israel

Dr. Ayalon received a PhD from Illinois Institute of Technology, and is now an association professor in Psychology at the School of Social Work. She is coming to the Summer Institute to strengthen her qualitative research skills, specifically in survey sampling, that are necessary in her research as well as her teaching.

Yan Sun, China          

Ms. Sun has a PhD from Beijing Forestry University. She is currently employed at the Institute of Social Science Survey at Peking University as an Assistant Researcher in Survey Methodology. The knowledge she is most interested in gaining from attending Summer Institute courses is in questionnaire design and data quality control in order to produce more high quality survey data for scientific research in China.

Javiera Vasquez, Chile

Ms. Vasquez received an MA from the University of Chile and is currently working on a PhD. She is employed as a researcher in economics by the Microdata Center at the University of Chile. This position requires participation in developing social surveys, including work in sample design, questionnaire design, and analysis of data. Ms. Vasquez hopes that the summer courses will complement her knowledge in economics and ecometrics to help improve her work.

Edward Waiyaki, Kenya

Mr. Waiyaki attended Notre Dame University and is now employed as a Research Officer at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. He hopes that participating in the Summer Institute will give him the knowledge and techniques to conduct comprehensive data analysis of his survey data in order to be a productive researcher as well as advance in his career path.

Aili Zhou, China

Ms. Zhou received an MA from the University of Michigan. She has worked at the Narada Foundation in China as a Project Officer in Public Policy. By attending the Summer Institute, she hopes to learn how to better apply survey methodology tools to real-life situations, especially how to combine qualitative and quantitative methods.
